Firework Letter from the Mayor

Letter from Mayor Call regarding fireworks restriction

June 28, 2012
To All Citizens of Pleasant Grove:
Severely dry weather has created an extreme fire hazard throughout the state. Wildfires have already claimed thousands of acres, numerous homes, and at least one life this year. In response to the extraordinary danger we face, Governor Herbert has asked every city in Utah to enact immediate restrictions on the use of fireworks. In a unanimous vote of the city council this week, an ordinance was passed that limits the use of all fireworks in certain areas of the city.
This summer, all fireworks are banned in the hillside area east of the Murdock Canal from the south boundary of Pleasant Grove to 1100 North, and east of 100 East from 1100 North to the north boundary of the city. Maps showing the affected areas have been posted where fireworks are sold, and signs have been posted at key locations along the restricted boundary. We sincerely ask all of our citizens to be aware of these restricted zones and comply with the emergency measures we are taking.
We further recognize that even in non-restricted areas conditions are dangerous. Many structure fires begin outside the home, in open fields and vacant lots. Please take extra measures to ensure that your enjoyment of legal fireworks is done in a way that is safe for you and your neighbors.
We know that those living in restricted areas may have to interrupt traditions that span years or decades this summer. If your Fourth of July plans are altered because of these restrictions, we invite you to join your neighbors and fellow residents at the Junior High for our city-sponsored professional fireworks display.
Safety to life and property is our highest priority. We plead with you to understand and comply with these emergency measures. Let's all be unified in our goal for a zero-fire July, and let's be alert, aware, and active in our pursuit of that goal.
 Sincerely,
 Bruce W. Call
Mayor, Pleasant Grove City
