Manila's September PTA Meeting will be held on September 12 at 9:30am in the Southwest Trailer. Please join us if you can! We would love your input! And children are welcome.

The Mini Marathon Meeting will be right after, around 10:30. We will be finalizing things for the Mini Marathon, so we would love it if you could join us for that, also.

Manila 3rd Annual Mini Marathon Shirt Contest

All students are invited to create the new Mini Marathon Shirt for this year's race. We have had some fantastic shirts in the past, and we are excited to see what you come up with for this year!  REMEMBER... in order for your design to qualify, you need to use three colors or less. Black is considered one of the colors. You need to have your design turned in NO LATER than September 11th. And it's not a rule, but in general the winning shirts have had something to do with Manila and the Mini Marathon. We know a lot of you are Viking and BYU fans, but we probably wouldn't put that on our Marathon shirt, so think carefully about your design. We are looking forward to seeing your creations!

Mini Marathon Reminder

School is in full swing and going great! Hopefully your children are settled in and ready for a great year!

I just wanted to send out a reminder to sign up for the Mini Marathon! We need your support! It is on September 28th. Vendor EXPO will be at 4:30 and the Marathon will begin at 5:30. We do realize that there is a BYU game that night, but we are hoping that everyone will still support the Marathon. This is the one fundraiser that the PTA is doing, so even if you can't participate in the Marathon, please register and donate so we can keep the great programs we have at Manila! Let's show that Mustang Pride! You can register by CLICKING HERE!

Also, if any of you know someone who would be interested in a Vendor booth at the Marathon, it is a great way to do some advertisement! They can register at that same link.

Thanks for your support! We can't do this without you!

New SunButter

This comes from Jodi Vlam, from the District Food Services...

Beginning this year, we have had changes to the nutritional requirements for all school meals as a result of USDA regulatory changes. One of the most significant requirements has been the need for children to take a fruit or vegetable serving for lunch. We have found that a great number of elementary students already select a fruit or vegetable each day for lunch.  The selection is only part of the process and we hope that each of us, Nutrition Services, Principals and faculty can encourage students to eat all of their lunches and reduce waste.

I have attached a brochure that has been developed and is being printed for clarification.  This could be helpful for you as you receive questions from parents or faculty.  Also attached is an article placed in the districts July newspaper regarding Sunbutter sandwiches.  These sandwiches were added this year for use as an emergency meal and a sandwich option for field trips. Sunbutter sandwiches are not made from nuts and do not cause a risk to  students with a peanut/nut allergy.

Pizza offered this year has a new taste and look to meet new nutritional requirements.  We have changed to a 51% whole grain crust, a lower sodium pizza sauce and reduced fat pepperoni.  The reformulated recipe is currently being evaluated and we hope to continue improving all choices and finding ways to meet student preferences.

And I thought this flyer might be of some interest.
